VOTE FOR THE JURYTEAM ON JUNE 4th
Why would you like to represent your region?

I have lived and worked in the South-East since 1973. My valuable experience in politics over the past 16 years has provided me with an insight into the machinations of local, regional, and central government.

As the European Parliament is intricately tied in with all forms of governance in the United Kingdom, as an MEP I would strive to take full advantage of all the benefits that the South-East could derive from the EU. On the other hand, I would fight strenuously against EU proposals that I perceived as damaging the interests of the South-East.

As an EU sceptic I do not like the idea of the UK being governed by Brussels: the aim of the EU appears to be just that, to establish a federal government for the whole of Europe. The Common Market was established to be an agreement between member states to establish trade links between themselves, nothing else.

One of the regional issues on which I will campaign is 'Population Estimates'. Unreliable methodology for establishing accurate estimates of populations affects the financial standing of many cities and towns in the South-East very badly. From my experience as Cabinet Member for Resources on Slough Borough Council I know that Slough has lost several millions of pounds of Government funding because of inaccurate population figures. In common with Slough, many places in the region have seen a huge influx of East Europeans since 2004. Very few of these migrant workers and their families are counted accurately. Whilst this is not a European Parliament issue I intend to make it one.
Areas of interest - reasons and personal views

Area : Borders and Migration
Reason : Early on in my role as a Slough Borough Councillor I became aware of, and challenged, the fact that the Borough was spending millions of pounds a year on asylum seekers and not being recompensed sufficiently by the Government. This shortfall in funding placed added pressure on the Borough to provide, and maintain, adequate services to the community, such as Housing, Education, Social Services, Transport, Health, and Leisure. I believe that the Government still owe Slough £2million in funding.
Views : The UK has a long tradition of giving shelter to genuine asylum seekers who are in real danger of persecution in their own countries, for whatever reason.

Whilst I accede to this principle there must be far greater control in relation to the number that we allow into the UK. Stricter screening of potential asylum seekers would root out a great many who are bogus. The fact that these asylum seekers travel through, or over, many 'safe' countries before they arrive in the UK must also be tackled.

Area : Borders and Migration
Reason : I was Cabinet Member for Resources on Slough Borough Council when Slough experienced a huge influx of an estimated 13,000 Poles into the town following the accession of several East European countries into the EU in 2004. As the Council received Government funding for only 3,600 of these migrants, the pressure on Council services has been immense for some years now. Over 4 years I represented the Council in many meetings with Government ministers at Parliament in our fight for fairer funding.
Views : A points system must be introduced to prevent EU migrants taking jobs that could, and should, go to UK residents. Once allowed into the country to take up specialist jobs that cannot be done by UK residents, a time limit should be imposed on migrant workers when their positions are re-evaluated. If it is found that their jobs can be done by UK residents then they should be given adequate notice to leave. This is especially true in the current economic climate with over 2 million unemployed.

Area : Environment
Reason : I am referring particularly to the proposed third runway and expansion of Heathrow Airport and the impact it will have environmentally on the area. I represented Slough Borough Council at the House of Lords on 26th February 2007 when the 2M Group was launched. The event was hosted by Lord Hanningfield, Shadow Minister for Local Government and Transport. The 2M Group represents the 2 million people who live in the 12 boroughs in the West London area, a number of whom live in the South-East area.
Views : I spoke on this issue at a Slough public meeting in February 2008. With Terminal 5 already in operation the number of flights will increase by 22,000 per year. With a third runway the number of flights will increase by a further 135,000 per year. Increased pollution will adversely affect the quality of life of 2 million people. I strongly believe that all internal and short-haul flights to the continent should be withdrawn. High-speed trains and the Eurostar should be used a great deal more.
Other political issues of interest

I strongly believe that the Human Rights Act should be abolished in its current form. Currently, the situation exists where thousands of foreign prisoners, failed asylum seekers, and illegal immigrants are costing us a fortune to keep. Immigration lawyers are milking a system that is hamstrung by the wording in the Human Rights Act.

Proposer

Name : Richard Stokes
Reason for supporting Geoff : As Commissioner for Finance and Resources for 4 years Geoff Howard played a prominent part in the achievements of the 'Rainbow Coalition'.

Geoff took a lead role in the 'Slough Fair Funding Campaign', launched to refute the Government's assertion that the population of Slough was falling at such a rate that the town needed a smaller Government grant. This assertion was made in spite of the fact that Slough experienced an influx of approximately 13,000 Poles from 2004 onwards.

Following national workshops the ONS publicly confirmed that it was unable to measure population accurately. 23 Local Authorities were involved in the campaign, including 3 London Boroughs, 3 County Councils, and 4 City Councils.

During the population campaign Geoff represented the Council in several meetings that the Council held with Government Ministers.

Geoff also played a lead role when the Council successfully sued the Government for the recovery of almost £1 million in LABGI monies (Local Authority Business Growth Incentive).

Through effective financial control and a creative policy approach, Geoff succeeded in avoiding disastrous service cuts and built up Council reserves from dangerously low levels. He proved to be an efficient and popular Commissioner. He is a significant figure in the local community and has been a Magistrate for many years.

Geoff displays excellent interpersonal skills and his integrity is beyond question. As an MEP Geoff will serve with independence and competence.
Seconder

Name : Gillian Bodman
Reason for supporting Geoff : During the time I have been Head Teacher at Western House I have had the pleasure of working closely with my Chair of Governors, Mr. Geoff Howard. Geoff is a highly experienced School Governor, a former Slough Borough Councillor, and a Magistrate. I very much appreciated his guidance through my formative years as a Head Teacher and, of course, still value his advice and support.

Geoff Howard is an extremely hard-working and committed man, working tirelessly for the people of Slough and for the teachers, children, and parents of our school. He takes a real interest in the achievements of the pupils in the school and is keen for the school to do as much as it can to offer every child the best opportunities we can. As to be expected over the years, we have experienced disputes and difficult situations with parents and staff and Geoff's approach is always calm, considered, unbiased and realistic.

I have no hesitation in supporting Geoff with his application for MEP for the South East of England. I believe him to be an excellent candidate for the post with a wealth of experience and energy to offer, a solid integrity, and a real belief that he can better the lives of others.

TO LEAVE THE EU

What is the exit and survival plan for these United Kingdoms to maximise on the many benefits of leaving The EU. It is the DUTY of our Politicians and Snivil Cervants to ensure the continuity, liberty and right to self determination of our peoples they have a DUTY to protect against crime and secure both our food and our border.
NONE of these DUTIES has a single British politician upheld for 40 years. They have drawn their incomes fraudulently and dishonesty.

Politicians are failing to tell the truth, but so are almost all wanabe Politicians, the MSM and Snivil Cervants.

The fact is that even if EVERY British MEP wanted change in The EU it would achieve NOTHING.
Every single British Politician, of EVERY Party, elected since before we joined the EUropean Common Market, has promised to change The EU's CAP - In 40 Years they have achieved absolutely NOTHING!

Similarly without a clear majority at Westminster no MPs vote can make ANY difference as 80% of all law at Westminster is made by imposition by our Government of Brussels and the balance can be forced upon us under Article 2 Section II of The EUropean Communities Act 1972 by 'Order in Council' or 'Statutary Instrument' by The Minsiter Concerned. British MPs have absolutely no job, merely rapidly escalating incomes!

To try to put a value on OUR Freedom is as futile as floccipaucinihilipilification and as odious as the metissage of our societies, as we rummage in the ashes of our ancestors dreams, sacrifices and achievements, the flotsam of our hopes and the jetsam of our lives, consider the Country and Anglosphere which we leave our children and the future, with shame!

I SUGGEST – since there is clearly no political party of repute, advocating or campaigning for withdrawal of these United Kingdoms from the EU and restoration of our independent sovereign, democracy, with Justice & the right to self determination in a free country. Deny the self seeking & meaningless wanabe MEPs the Mythical Mandate for which they clamour. Diktat is imposed from The EU but Law should be made at Westminster, for our Country & our Peoples.
